Richard Booth claims to run the world's biggest secondhand book business in Hay-on-Wye, on the borders of Herefordshire and Breconshire. Booth travels the world to buy stock, and he has approaching one million books on sale in Hay-on-Wye in the castle, the cinema, the old fire station and three other premises he has bought up. RICHARD BOOTH and some of his customers talk about the town whose major industry is secondhand books.
Also Piers Paul Read , whose book Alive: The Story of the Andes Survivors and a novel The Upstart have just appeared in paperback; and Hilary Spurling reviews some recent paperbacks.
