Robert Robinson introduces a weekly look at hardbacks and paperbacks, fact and fiction, best-sellers and remainders.
This week's readers: Professor Richard Hoggart and James Burke talk about their own choice of recently published books and one or two new crime novels.
The writers: ROBERT ROBINSON reports on the first International Crime Writers' Congress held in London this month. Three hundred crime writers convened for three days of discussion and demonstrations of lock picking, firearms and police dogs. On the last day they were joined by crime fiction addicts to hear the authors speak about their methods of working.

takes a look at today's Rock Music, with films, album tracks, reviews and guests.
In the studio: John Mayall, Jean Luc Ponty and Andrew Bailey
Programme introduced by Bob Harris, who says:
"Tonight's programme brings together two highly influential and respected musicians. Initially under Alexis Korner's guidance, John Mayall pioneered The Blues-breakers - a group which at various times included Eric Clapton and Jack Bruce, who left to form Cream; Aynsley Dunbar and Peter Green, who then put together Fleetwood Mac: and John Hiseman and Dick Heckstall-Smith, who went on to form Coliseum. Jean Luc Ponty, meanwhile, has for several years been an integral part of Frank Zappa's Music - joining him initially on the album "Hot Rats".'
