Harmony of the Worlds
In episode 3 of Cosmos Carl Sagan's journey takes us to exotic and very ancient sites which bear vivid witness to early man's obsession with the stars-and the dawn of scientific observation.
From there we go to the turbulent 16th-century world of Hans Kepler, a tortured genius whose integrity and perseverance made him the last scientific astrologer and the first astrophysicist.

Rogon Josh , or lamb stewed in a rich red sauce, is one of the classic dishes of India. In the second of eight programmes Madhur Jaffrey demonstrates how easily it is prepared, and shows how to make the delicious aubergines in a pickling style-a sort of Indian ratatouille-and one of the most popular Indian breads, parathas.

'It's an emergency, George. You remember the old General, used to live in Paris? We need someone from his past. We need you, George.' Can Your Mind Control Pain?
Janet Salisz made medical history when three of her children were delivered by Caesarean operation using only hypnosis to control pain. Because she was allergic to pain-killing drugs, her doctor had advised her to learn hypnosis. ' Each time I did it, it became easier,' she says. Her surgeons, to convince sceptical medical colleagues, made a remarkable film of her second Caesarean, during which she can be seen to be free of pain and perfectly relaxed.
This film, the second of four on hypnosis, concentrates on its use to control pain. It looks at Janet's experience as well as two chronic pain patients, a London taxi-driver and a Los Angeles police officer.
It reports the work of scientists trying to understand the subtle psychological processes involved in hypnotic pain control and asks, does hypnosis work for just a few rare individuals or is it a technique that can be generally useful?
