British Professional Championship from Gaskins Conference Centre, Middlesbrough
Thirty-two of the top darts players in Britain will compete over the next eight days in the 1982 British Professional Championship.
World Champion and title holder Jocky Wilson is unable to take part, which means there will be a new champion to take home the trophy and first prize of £7,000.
The first round begins today with four matches this afternoon featuring top players from England, Scotland and Wales: ERIC BRISTOW , RAB SMITH and LEIGHTON REESt
World No 1 and top seed for this tournament, Eric Bristow 's first hurdle will be a hard one against ex-World Champion Leighton Rees. Each match is the best of five sets, three legs per set.
