Greetings from the New World Introduced and conducted by James Loughran
Since its first performance in 1893 Dvorak's famous 9th Symphony in E minor ' From the New World' has remained one of the most popular of all symphonic works. It was composed in New York by a man never happier than at his beautiful country home a few miles from Prague.
JAMES LOUGHRAN, Principal Conductor of the Halle Orchestra , tells the story behind Dvorak's voluntary exile and reveals some surprising facts about the symphony. The second part of this programme, recorded in Manchester's Free Trade Hall, consists of a complete performance of Dvorak's New World symphony given by The Halle Orchestra leader MARTIN MILNER
