1903-83
Writer, lecturer, art historian, Kenneth Clark is best remembered as presenter of the landmark television series Civilisation. This profile of the man who did so much to shape the way people think about art, coincides with a repeat of this classic 13-part series, from 1969, on Saturday afternoons.
Lord Clark's career was a glittering public progression, a stark contrast to his complex and troubled private life. Friends and colleagues including Sir David Attenborough and Lord Grade are among those who recall him in this revealing insight into his life, which is illustrated with rarely seen archive material including clips from Civilisation, and various television interviews of the 70s.
Clark's three children also contribute, including Alan, one of Mrs Thatcher's most colourful and controversial ministers, whose own television profile is repeated this evening at 11.15pm.
