In October 1968 a civil rights march in Northern Ireland was broken up by police with batons and water cannons. The march was the start of what has become known as the Troubles. But these events are only the continuation of a story which began centuries ago.

Breakfast
Victorian breakfasts were huge. Ruth Mott prepares a Mrs Beeton dish of baked mushrooms, using Harry Dodson 's specially grown mushrooms, garnished with watercress from the estate river, and adds bacon and eggs, kidneys, trout, muffins and piles of toast. But before breakfast can be started, the scullery maid faces an hour of hard labour cleaning out the range, lighting the fire, black leading the hobs and making cook's tea.

A series of six programmes.

Dear Radio Times,
Being right-wing crypto fascists with fixed ideas and loud screeching voices, my husband Pip and I sat down to watch this week's Alexei Sayle's Stuff on BBC1 with Great Trepidation (our 14-year-old labrador). Imagine our delight when we realised that Mr Sayle had lost several stones and spent the entire show sitting behind a news desk reading hilarious government 'plans' for education and health services - keeping us in stitches for the entire half-hour. More of this please!
Mrs Wilhemina Rees-Mogg,
Dungeness,
Kent

Me and My Bike
The Suddabys took theirs on honeymoon. Chris and Rachel sold everything to take theirs around the world, and Mr and Mrs Pinkerton have so many they don't know what to do with them.
This film takes an affectionate look at a long-standing love affair with the bicycle. At 88, Charles Darvill goes camping with his. George still builds them even though his wife was tragically killed on one.
And John Woodburn rode his 800 miles from Land's End to John o'Groats in record-breaking time.
