The last two world championships were decided in Japan. In 1987 Nelson Piquet took the title, and last year Ayrton Senna won the race and with it the championship. With only two races left this year, the championship situation could not be clearer: if Senna wins both races, he will be champion driver again; any other result, and team-mate Alain Prost will take the title.

Fear of the Wild
Snakes are worshipped as gods. Killer whales perform tricks. Bulls are taunted.
Great white sharks are killed. We have devised many ways of coping with our fear of dangerous animals, but why, at a time when many of us rarely encounter them in the wild, should we be afraid?
Might the way we treat wild animals be a throwback to a time when they were a real threat? And might our fears lead to their extinction?

John Aiken
Belfast-born sculptor
John Aiken left the city at 18, when the Troubles began, to study at Chelsea College of Art.
He's now Head of Sculpture at the Slade School of Fine Art. From childhood he's been fascinated by fortifications: the tower houses of Ireland, medieval castles, the barbed wire and corrugated iron of contemporary Belfast and the concrete of the German bunkers in northern France which he describes as 'the biggest sculpture park in the world'. What interests him is the impact of these installations on the landscape, rather than their function.

1: A Traveller's Tale
'Look at the clocks - it doesn't matter if they're wrong. Somewhere in the world the time is right.' A typical line from Slim
Gaillard. He became a jazz legend, collaborating with Charlie Parker ; he was a Second World War bomber pilot; Marvin Gaye 's father-in-law; and is fluent in Greek, Arabic, Spanish and his own 'Vout-o-Reenee' language; he appeared in 25 films including Hellzapoppin' and Roots; and drove a hearse for the notorious
Purple Gang.
Since he was stranded alone in Crete, aged 12, on a voyage from his native Cuba, Slim's life has been a spectacular, and sometimes traumatic, adventure. He tells his amazing story over four episodes with Dizzy Gillespie , Van Morrison , his and Marvin Gaye 's family,
Frankie Laine (whom he discovered) and the peanut that went to the moon. Film editor COLIN KNIJFF Research GILL MELLER
