Pesticides are a vital aid, say the farmers, for the efficient mass production of cheap food.
The agrochemical industry says it has a good safety record, but environmentalists, amid growing public concern about the potential hazards pesticides may cause to our health, claim modem farming is running on a 'chemical treadmill'.
