University Challenge 8.30pm BBC2
Jeremy Paxman's appointment to the chair of University Challenge caused a flurry when it was announced in May. Newsnight veteran Paxman had, it transpired,
applied to represent St Catherine's College, Cambridge, when he was an undergraduate in 1971, and had been "kept out of the team by a lot of men in anoraks". One newspaper went so far as to track down the team that was selected, only to find that they suffered a crushing defeat by Keele University. Bamber Gascoigne asked the questions for 25 years until the show was dropped by ITV in 1987. Granada will continue to produce the show, this time for the BBC. Paxman has been asked to preserve some of Gascoigne's catchphrases including "Your starter for ten" and "No conferring". To find out what happened to the very first University Challenge teams who appeared in 1962, see the feature on page 27.

The Life and Loves of a Sea Devil
Nineteen-year-old Rob Hunt loves the sea. At least he loves surfingand swimming and soaking up the rays.
What he doesn't like, as becomes clear in this film he made himself, is deep-sea fishing. And that is what he does for a living to pay off a debt of National Insurance contributions.
Rob shot his film overtwo years and it captures the monotony of the fishing trips, the frustrations of enforced fishingquotas and the fight to beat Spanish and French boats to a decreasingfish stock.
However, at the core of the film is his feeling of being trapped in this way of life. Eventually he has to find a way to pay off his debt and sort out his life - with a surprising result. If you would like to make a video diary, write to:[address removed]
