A mythical, wise old man journeys around Haiti, accompanied by the spectre of Death. Director Raoul Peck 's moving and poignant film presents a very personal view of the island and its people with their resolution, will-power and strength to survive, in spite of crushing poverty, political repression and environmental destitution.
In her first documentary, Confessions of a Suburban Girl, film director Susan Seidelman revisits the new suburb of Huntingdon Valley outside Philadelphia, where she grew up in the early 1960s. Best known for Madonna's film debut, Desperately Seeking Susan, Seidelman uses carefully observed black-and-white sequences and new actors to re-create key scenes from her time at high school, and interviews old friends who, like her, have just turned 40. The film reflects on how life was then, how they saw the future and what the reality has turned out to be.
