In the week when
France throws the biggest party in its history to celebrate the bicentenary of the Revolution, travel to a tiny village in Normandy to find out why the Revolution matters to French people today. The villagers of Montsecret are marking the occasion with a special performance, reliving the role of the community and their ancestors in the foundation of the Republic. Dreams of Freedom explores the layers of myth and folklore to tell the real story of how the people of France fought for the rights we all enjoy today.

The Patriot by PETER BARNES with
Patriot Palloy was the Revolution's greatest entrepreneur. Two days after the fall of the Bastille he secured the contract for its demolition. He sold every inch of the prison. Its stones were fashioned into miniature souvenirs; the drawbridge chains were melted down to form commermorative medals. For Palloy, the Revolution meant liberty - the liberty to make himself a fortune.
