Reporter Philip Tibenham.
Every year over half a million people are made redundant. Company executives and blue-collar workers alike are affected. How do they cope with the stress of losing their jobs and how easy is it for them to find a new one? A new industry - outplacement - has rapidly developed to rebuild confidence and to train the redundant to tackle the job market.
Philip Tibenham investigates the kind of services on offer. He asks some senior executives how useful they have found the experience of being outplaced, and looks at an outplacement project in a Yorkshire biscuit factory, where over 1,000 workers are being made redundant.

Narrator
Jonathan Pryce. Second of four films on themes in the French Revolution.
Every year, on 21 January,
French royalists pray for the soul of Louis XVI and lament what they regard as France's greatest mistake. In 1989 pretenders to the French throne are still treated by some with the same reverence as their royal ancestor, who died on the guillotine, a ritual sacrifice at the violent birth of the new Revolution. A specially composed Requiem Mass and the spirit of the Revolution reflected in modern French art help to tell the story of the last days of the obsessive, sexually impotent and introverted man whose death marked a turning point in the history of the world.

A series of six films with Patrick Nuttgens. 3: Streets in the Sky
Tonight's film explores the attempt to find a mass solution to what was thought to be a mass problem: the rehousing of Britain after the Second World War. High towers have now the lowest possible reputation. Why did we replan cities like Plymouth, London or Birmingham as we did, and how should we live with the consequences?
The newsreels of the period extolled the virtues of the modern age but, as Patrick Nuttgens discovers, the people always saw things differently and, as he hears from a group of young people who've taken over the running of a tower block in Middlesbrough, they still do. The second of four monologues based on eyewitness accounts of the ordinary men and women who made the French Revolution.
With Alfred Molina as Robert Sauveur.
Robert Sauveur started killing when he was 13. Like his father before him, he worked a 16-hour day amid the blood and stench of the slaughterhouse at Sceaux. He lived hard - drinking, brawling and whoring - and then the Revolution reformed him. Now he stands before the National Assembly, about to make the most important speech of his life.
