Patriot Palloy was the Revolution's greatest entrepreneur. Two days after the fall of the Bastille he secured the contract for its demolition. He sold every inch of the prison. Its stones were fashioned into miniature souvenirs; the drawbridge chains were melted down to form commermorative medals. For Palloy, the Revolution meant liberty - the liberty to make himself a fortune.
