The season of films from the 1988 festival continues with a dramatic and highly original film from Madagascar. Tabataba starring
Francois Botozandry Lucien Dakadisy To a small village. isolated in the valleys of eastern Madagascar comes a stranger bringing news of momentous events that will change things forever. Disorder and agitation overtake the credulous villagers as they fall prey to hearsay and fantasy - observed with wry detachment by wise old Bakanga and with astonishment by the young boy, Solo. Set in French-ruled Madagascar in 1947, the film reflects the vivid storytelling in a tradition where history is handed down orally - tabataba means the spreading of rumours.
