For several decades Elstree's name was synonymous with that of the British film industry. Since the end of the war, hundreds of films have come to life there, as diverse as The Dam Busters, Moby Dick , Ice Cold in Alex, 2001, The Railway Children, and Star Wars. Today, with only two of the original six studios left, one making films, the other producing television programmes, notably
EastEnders, the story of Elstree's rise and decline also mirrors that of the industry as a whole.

The Confessions of Robert Crumb
After Robert Crumb , comics could never be the same again. He came to fame in the mid 60s with characters like Fritz the Cat and the archetypal guru, Mr Natural , in wicked satires on the excesses of the Love
Generation. In a medium associated with superheroes, Crumb deals only with anti-heroes, most entertainingly his own self-portrait, a confused, paranoid weakling with an unfortunate taste for big, powerful women. Lost in the modern world, Crumb has found refuge in rural
California with his wife and fellow comic artist,
Aline Kominsky. Tonight in a rare appearance before the camera, he talks about his work and his troubles with women, life and himself. Series editors
