Day two: and has the No 15 seed John Virgo survived the challenge of World Amateur Champion, Darren Morgan? They played their match to a finish during the morning, while No 9 seed Mike Hallett opened his bid for the title against Grand Prix winner Doug Mountjoy.
Tony Knowles and Dennis Taylor are the lead parts this afternoon.
David Vine is settling at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, no doubt wondering where this year's £525,000 prize money is bound.

Battle lines are being drawn up for a renewed confrontation over the vexed question of a single currency for Europe. The British Government is opposed, primarily because a single currency would involve giving Europe much greater power. But some say there would be real benefits to a Euro-currency, for the man in the street as much as for business.
Steve Levinson reports on the battle for the pound - is Britain right to want to keep its own currency, and will it be able to?
