9.20am Police Powers First of six films on the Police and the public. Keeping PACE?
The Police and Criminal
Evidence Act 1984 - PACE - is the police officers' bible, a statutory set of rules which governs every aspect of police work from stop and search, to arrest and detention, to the handling of complaints.
The Police Federation say that PACE is too restrictive and hinders crime detection. Others feel that record keeping and a new complaints procedure don't go far enough to protect the suspect from possible abuse.

A Hidden Problem
'Distressing, demoralising and totally degrading.'
Since 1977 nurses have been trained with the aim of helping sufferers from incontinence. There are now Continence Advisors throughout the country, and Janet Blannin was one of the first.
I did not do justice to 'Nurses' when it started. With three episodes under its belt, it has emerged as a compelling and valuable account of how Britain's s angels are adapting their care to changing times. TODAY Sound recordist KEITH RODGERSON Film editor IAN PITCH BBC Bristol (R)
