Another showing of the prizewinning story of how a classic recording was made, featuring
In September 1984, in a New York recording studio, composer Leonard Bernstein conducted for the first time anywhere a complete performance of his 1957 musical. Omnibus cameras covered the five hectic and exhilarating days of rehearsing and recording to make this documentary. Reviewing the record in Gramophone,
Edward Greenfield says, 'The speed with which the whole piece moves is astounding, not just as a superb entertainment but as a Shakespearean tragedy modernised and intensified'.

Celia Cruz with Tito Puente and His Orchestra
The Queen of Salsa teams up with the King, in a spectacular performance filmed at the Apollo Theater in New York. Combining Cuban rhythms, glamour, verve and sass, the dynamic voice of Celia Cruz has thrilled audiences all over the world for decades. She has been compared with Aretha Franklin, Sarah Vaughan, and Ella Fitzgerald, but to Hispanics in America she is little less than a goddess, and she still sings the chants of Cuba's ancient Santerra religion. With special guest Johnny Pacheco.
