David Robinson, film critic of the Times, introduces a controversial Soviet film.

Starring Nina Ruslanova, Vladimir Vysotsky, Kira Muratova

Kira Muratova 's third film, a lyrical love story, was shelved for 20 years by the Soviet authorities. Her trio of bohemian lovers contravened the conventions of the time. The film also marked the debut of Nina Ruslanova (who can be seen in tonight's Film Club in her latest film) and of Vladimir Vysotsky, the protest singer whose tragically early death left a nation in mourning.
Screenplay by KIRA MURATOVA and LEONID ZHUKOVITSKY

Not so long ago, salmon and trout were strictly for high days and holidays. Now they are farmed and are cheap enough for everyday eating. And if you are economising at the moment, Denis Curtis shows you how to make a stylish fish dinner party for only E2.50 a head. Or perhaps you would prefer fresh pike braised in riesling?

David Robinson introduces the last in a short season of controversial Soviet films.
Sign of Disaster starring
Nina Ruslanova Gennady Garbuk
For Stepanida and her husband, being occupied by German troops is only the last of a series of battles.
The brutality of forced collectivisation, and the cynical collaboration of local fascists have already strengthened Stepanida's dogged determination to stand up for herself. Based on a recently published, best-selling novel, Sign of Disaster presents a radical reassessment of a little-known period of modern history and can be regarded as a milestone in Soviet cinema.
