Atarah Ben Tovim, a former principal flautist with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, now runs the BEN TOVIM CHILDREN'S MUSIC CENTRE in Rossendale, Lancashire, and is a leading campaigner for children's right to music. But opinions differ about the place of music in the curriculum. What should our priorities be?

Professor Bonner and the Slime Moulds
Scoop up a handful of soil from anywhere in the world and you'll be holding in your hand some of nature's strangest creatures-the minute and extraordinary slime moulds. Starting their bizarre life cycle as thousands of independent amoebas, they transform themselves into crawling slugs, then plant-like creatures on waving stalks. Slime moulds have been the lifetime study of Professor John Tyler Bonner of Princeton University, who finds in them clues to some of biology's greatest puzzles - how cells develop and differentiate; the mysteries of pregnancy; the origins of our remote ancestors. Now specialist micro-photography reveals the hidden world of the slime moulds as PROFESSOR BONNER follows the fantastic journey of these strange creatures of the soil.

The story of the boxing booths
Prize-fighting on fairground boxing booths is a disappearing spectacle. It was once known as the 'school of champions' and many famous boxers, like Tommy Farr began their careers fighting all-comers for a pound a round to entertain the crowds. The tradition is almost dead, but Ma McKeowen , now aged 84, still tours with the family boxing booth round the fairgrounds of the south, remembering the days when she discovered boxers such as Freddie Mills, who became a world champion.
