A personal view by J. Bronowski. The Long Childhood
In this, the last of 13 programmes, Dr Bronowski - poet, playwright, mathematician and philosopher - draws together the many threads of the series.
From his own home in California he takes stock of man's complex, and sometimes precarious, ascent, drawing on experiences from his own lifetime. The longest childhood of all, he argues, is that of man himself, growing to self-knowledge.

A series of programmes to mark the centenary of the composer's birth, introduced by John Drummond

The most Russian of Stravinsky's scores inspired the choreographer Mikhail Fokine to create this most Russian of ballets.
[Starring] Rodolf Nureyev as Petrushka

(Tomorrow night: The Rite of Spring)

For all ballet lovers, the chance to see Rudolf Nureyev take on the mantle of Vaslav Nijinsky in the part of Petrushka, is an opportunity not to be missed. Tonight Nureyev can be seen dancing as the tragic half-human, half-puppet. The rote was created in 1911 by Nijinsky, the first male superstar of ballet. Ever since, the part has challenged the world's leading dancers. Nureyev's interpretation is remarkably faithful to the original, but intensely personal. His magical stage presence which has often been compared with that of Nijinsky himself, gives a great power to the performance. Petrushka: 6.45

Eddie's 40th birthday party reunites friends not seen since the old days of ton-up bikes and early rock and roll. It could be a chance to relive those 'good times', if the others can only match Eddie's enthusiasm.

Alan Price on George Orwell with Lindsay Anderson
While writing a musical based on the Jarrow March of the 1930s Alan Price read many of George Orwell's essays. He finds in them an unrivalled feeling and understanding for the unemployed and hungry, and a unique sensitivity to social injustice anywhere. He also delights in Orwell's unashamed yet unsentimental love of England. With readings by Lindsay Anderson and music from the Alan Price Band, this is a celebration of George Orwell.
