The Noble Art? ..
Maurice Hope was ten years old when he came from Antigua to join his large family in the East
End of London. Twenty years later, he lives in 'stockbroker belt' splendour, complete with private swimming pool, personalised Mercedes and his children installed in an exclusive prep school.
Luxuries were a rarity, too, for Pat Cowdell 's Midlands family. Now he can look forward to the same rewards as Maurice Hope. Both men have literally fought for success ... in the professional boxing ring.
These two British boxers shared the bill at Wembley Arena on 30 March. Both were challenging Italians for European titles. Brass Tacks Reports accompanied Hope and Cowdell, their families and managers during the tense days before their fights and then shared the dramas of dressing room and boxing ring on that night. The result is an insight into the motives of men who suffer and inflict pain for a living.
