Filming with the Royal Navy during the Second World War was not easy. Strict security and shortage of accommodation discouraged the cameramen and war correspondents from sailing with the Fleet. However, for those who did manage to film the action at sea, the results were most dramatic.
This programme records the memories and film of three of those cameramen, Paul Bee-son , John Turner and David Prosser.

Filton turned out Blenheims by the hundred, Weston-super-Mare Beaufighters by the thousand. Westlands built Lysanders for rescue work and Seafires for carrier attacks. Glosters secured a place in history with the first jet fighter the Meteor. And plane-makers and their families endured rationing and air raids to keep up the supply of Wings for War. The serious task of combating Hitler and his dastardly secret agents was too important a matter to be left to amateurs. So, with a little cinematic licence, Universal called in 'the invincible and ageless' Sherlock Holmes, whose track record in Victorian England was well proven.
Here Holmes and Dr Watson go to Washington to save a top secret document from falling into enemy hands and so do their bit for the war effort.

Findon Fair
Generations of Sussex shepherds have tended their Southdown flocks. Today much of the down-land turf has been lost to the plough, the numbers of sheep have dwindled and the shepherd has be-become a rare breed of countryman. Bernard Price and Gordon Bening field reflect on the traditional shepherd's life, and admire the craft that was once commonplace. Together they visit one of the surviving sheep sales held in the heart of the Downs. Surrounded by thousands of sheep on the village green, they are encouraged by the enthusiasm of the modern farmers and shepherds who still see Findon Fair as one of the important events in the counuy calendar.
