Fred Housego visits Carmarthen in South Wales where Terry James, printer and local historian, has recently written a study of the town which reveals a pattern of development which stretches right back to the Romans.

A series of films portraying issues, stories and characters. The Last Resort
Glenthome is a high security-prison for young persons. Among the children behind its 18-foot-high perimeter fence are teenagers convicted of serious crimes like arson, rape and murder.
Glenthorne is in a suburb of Birmingham. Only two such prisons exist in Britain. This is the first documentary profile to be made in such an establishment. Among its 35 inmates are:
DARREN, whose temper is uncontrollable
CHRISTINE, whose good progress is suddenly marred by a bout of glue-sniffing, and John, detained during Her Majesty's Pleasure, for murder.
This portrait of Glenthorne shows how children, apparently beyond redemption, can be weaned by a subtle system of rewards and Punishments towards civilised behaviour and an eventual return to the outside world.
