Terrier Man
Bert Gripton belongs to a special breed of countryman that has spent a lifetime in the quiet, private places of the countryside - with or without permission.
Phil Drabble met Bert 30 years ago through their shared interest in working dogs - Bert breeds, trains, shows and works fox terriers. He exports them to America, Italy and even Japan. Like so many sportsmen-naturalists, Bert has learned his craft not from books but from practical experience, which he now takes great delight in passing on to his grandson Jamie -inside knowledge that many a gamekeeper would give his eye teeth to extract from ' that old fox Gripton'.
