At the end of last year James Beard suffered an attack of leukaemia. He was treated with massive doses of drugs and survived.
But it may be only a reprieve. In nine cases out of ten his type of leukaemia strikes again, often worse than before. The only way his doctors can offer him a better chance of long term survival is by a bone marrow transplant.
