The Cornucopia
Europe has food in abundance. Science has revolutionised farming and made it possible to produce mountains of cereals and lakes of milk - a source of great resentment for many British taxpayers. A large proportion of Europe's eight million farmers are no longer needed. But every European government would like to keep small farmers in business, to prevent the breakdown of rural communities-so how far should we ignore the economics of the situation and put social welfare in its place?
This film compares British farming methods with farms in remote parts of Europe where the livelihood of farmers is not just an economic issue but a matter of vital social and environmental importance.
