A series of eight programmes
5 The Allegation
Ian is a prisoner on Dl, Strangeways' punishment landing. It is a place of tension and confrontation, where incidents are commonplace. One such incident occurred which resulted in Ian making an allegation of brutality against a prison officer.
There must be an enquiry. Who is telling the truth? Did the officer strike Ian in his cell, or is it a fabrication?
In the closed and secret world of prison, justice is dispensed with no lawyers and no jury. And if the decision goes against Ian he stands to lose all his remission and spend a further six months in gaol.

Producer REX BLOOMSTEIN

You can't do anything, can you? Presenter Jeni Barnett tries a song, there's a bit of dance - and the self-help show puts forward ideas for local action, Like the Devon villagers who pay no Parish rates but still have money to spend because the Parish Council owns the pub. And did you know that any elector can have a direct say in anything that changes local life - even cruise missiles?
We meet diesel engine makers in Cannock who lost their jobs, until they decided to run their own Srm. And women in Sunderiand who used local radio to express their ideas and share their experience of middle life.
For information, or if you have any ideas for the show, please write to Grapevine, BBCtv, Wood Lane, London W12 5QT.
