starring William Daniels

The Continental Congress in Philadelphia in 1776 had very little time for the war against the British - they were too busy fighting among themselves.
Peter Stone 's musical version of the historic debate is a vastly entertaining account of the fight by three men to achieve American Independence.

The Days of the Jackal
' Till death us do part' is becoming a rare concept in human marriages. In the wild it's always been the exception; less than three per cent of all the world's mammals stay paired for life with the same mate.
But one such pair are living today on the wide plains of the Serengeti. Raha and Refu are golden jackals, very like our British foxes and they've been together since 1974. By intensive observation of them throughout the years, Dr Patti Moehlman has unveiled some fascinating secrets about jackal families, in which parents and young adults combine to guard and rear the pups, and also feed and care for each other in times of need. The first of a series of programmes from the Bristol Arts Unit' is a film impression of the music of Claude Debussy , played by the LONDON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA under Andre Previn , who introduces the programme.
The three-part Images composed by Debussy between 1906 and 1912, evokes the landscape, and the spirit of three European countries. ' 'Gigues' is set in a wintry, English sea-scape. ' 'Iberia' conjures up the colours and movement of the Spanish fiesta. ' Rondes de printemps ' celebrates the arrival of spring in a rural French setting.
Tonight's film explores Debussy's theme in a visual way, combining images from the natural world - landscape, seasonal changes, animal life - with a linking human element, the dance. Featuring

also starring Peter Finch with Murray Head
GLENDA JACKSON has established an international reputation playing strong-willed, independent women.
In the first of a season of feature films starring this talented actress, she gives a remarkable performance as a divorced business consultant in love with the young, bisexual designer, Bob Elkin. The relationship, however, is under considerable strain since Bob is also lover to Daniel Hirsh , a middle-aged Jewish doctor. When the emotional pressures on Bob become too great he makes up his mind to leave them both.
John Schlesinger 's highly-praised film is widely regarded as a key British movie of the 70s, and brought both Glenda Jackson and Peter Finch British Film Academy awards.
