The Days of the Jackal
' Till death us do part' is becoming a rare concept in human marriages. In the wild it's always been the exception; less than three per cent of all the world's mammals stay paired for life with the same mate.
But one such pair are living today on the wide plains of the Serengeti. Raha and Refu are golden jackals, very like our British foxes and they've been together since 1974. By intensive observation of them throughout the years, Dr Patti Moehlman has unveiled some fascinating secrets about jackal families, in which parents and young adults combine to guard and rear the pups, and also feed and care for each other in times of need.
