The last of ten programmes on making children's clothes Presented by ANN LADBURY 10: Duffle Coat
A warm coat can be a very expensive item to buy ready-made for children. Even experienced home dressmakers can be nervous of tackling a big project like a coat. However, making your own children's coats can cut costs dramatically. In this programme Ann Ladbury gives step-by-step help on making up a duffle coat from the pattern in the Children's Wardrobe book. This unlined hooded coat, designed by Sally Tuffin , is a classic and is also relatively simple to make. It can be made in a more dressy version with a collar tc suit both boys and girls.

The second of five repeated programmes on a theme of nature

An American interrogation expert has hooked up plants to a lie detector... and claims they can read his mind. In this film some of his experiments are shown, using a split screen technique which allows you to make up your own mind about extra sensory perception in plants.
Botanists are sceptical but they admit there are many mysteries about plants. By what mechanism does a plant detect gravity? How does it perceive light? How can a pea tendril feel the object it coils round? How does a Venus fly trap react so fast?
Time lapse photography and some of the latest scientific research show the surprisingly active and puzzling world of the green machine.
