Jobs for Peace
Government policy in Northern Ireland has been to achieve peace and prosperity. The prosperity was to have come largely from industrial development.
One of the most important developments was the setting up of the Strathearn Audio Company. It was started in 1974 in a Catholic area of West Belfast. By now it should have been employing 1,200 people. Instead it has provided work for only 148. Those jobs have cost £63,000 each, and today Strathearn Audio is threatened with closure. In The Money Programme James Bellini reports from Belfast and examines what happened to the Strathearn plant.

In the second of this series looking at the impact TV is having in cities in conflict, Robert MacNeil returns to Montreal where he spent part of his childhood and witnessed the clash between French and English which led to the present crisis.
Montreal is one of the world's most Tv-saturated cities. It has 21 channels. During the future referendum which will decide whether Quebec separates from Canada, TV's role will be crucial. Already the national network has been accused of not contributing enough to national unity and its French service of separatist bias. Whatever the fate of the nation, television will be deeply involved.
