1975 saw the first-ever Schools Prom when over 400 school children aged 5-18 played before a capacity audience at London's Royal Albert Hall. The British press were unanimous In their praise 'Never has there been a Prom like it' (The Observer). 'The ensemble groups produced performances of astonishing variety' (The Times).
This year nearly 600 talented youngsters playing classical, folk and jazz, from schools all over the United Kingdom give a wider interpretation to the beloved term ' Proms ' and bring the sound of music from the orchestral to chamber, jazz, ensemble and big band to the budding promenaders.

Champion of Champions

Irina Rodnina , the Russian skater who at 26 has won more pair titles than any other skater in history. But her success has not come easily. At the height of her career, her first partner ULANOV left her to marry another skater. It was a blow to her personal life as well as her skating. This is Orienteering and the skill, provided you are fit and athletic, is in choosing the fastest route between control points.
The sixth World Championships were staged recently amongst the magnificent forests of Morayshire in north-east Scotland. Competitors from 19 nations navigated their way through conifer, beech, over rivers and up and down sand dunes in pursuit of a world title. Both Individual and Relay races were dominated by the Scandinavians but it was the spirit and friendliness of the event that enabled all to enjoy themselves.

The World of Blaster Bates
Blaster Bates is probably one of England's leading demolition experts. He is also a natural comedian. He can leave an audience calling for more after two and a half hours of simply relating incidents that have happened to him over the years. The walls of his Sandbach semi are covered with hunting trophies that tell of his hobby, and a silver disc that tells of his success as a reluctant recording artist.
The programme looks at Blaster's background, hobbies and work. Filming was not without its moments. Following one of his jobs blowing mud out of a silted-up trout pool, the camera team followed the action and watched Blaster's retreat. Some time was then spent in removing mud from the camera and crew!
