The Mystery of King Arthur and his Round Table
King Arthur's Round Table has hung on the wall of Winchester Castle for at least 600 years. Before that, its origins are unknown. Was there really a King Arthur and could this be his famous table? Did the Knights of the Round Table sit here?
At lunchtime today, a team of scientists, art historians and archaeologists reveal the results of four months' research into the table's life-story. Using techniques ranging from X-ray analysis to tree-ring dating, they answer the key questions. How old is the table? And who had it made?
When the findings are announced will they confirm or destroy the legend of the table? And what effect will they have on the mysterious King Arthur himself? Narrator PHILIP MADOC
