Story: "A Winter Story" written by Max Bolliger, illustrated by Beatrix Scharen

To mark the 50th anniversary of Winnie the Pooh, The Book Programme presented this film about Pooh's creator.

It is a portrait of two men and their happy collaboration, filmed in the countryside in which the stories were set. Richard Kay plays the young A.A. Milne, author of the Pooh books, and David Horovitch plays the young E.H. Shepard, who illustrated the stories.

E.H. Shepard himself appears, recalling his first visits to the 'Hundred Acre Wood' and 'Poohsticks Bridge'. And Christopher Robin Milne, son of the author, reads extracts from his father's memoirs and from the books and poems.

To save him from his own good intentions, his friends steal and burn the books.
