'Some people go to bingo, or to football... I go to the river.'
Hampshire is famous for its superlative trout streams, and most of them stay that way because they are backed by big estates with big money.
But the River Meon is different: it is backed by just one dedicated man. When much of it was a mucky rubbish-strewn swamp, only Richard Seymour was interested in salvaging it. Now he has a fine river, a full calendar and two successful books as a result of his spare-time labours.
Martin Muncaster discovers how he does it.
