Roland Penrose
At 22 SIR ROLAND PENROSE ran away to Paris to paint; there he became a close friend of the artists of the time - Ernst, Moore, Braque and Pablo Picasso , whose biography he has written. He comes from a strict Quaker background but bears no marks of the puritan. Now he is President of the Institute of Contemporary Arts (which he helped to found in the 1930s). He has been responsible during his lifetime for many of the major art exhibitions we have enjoyed in this country. We see him working on the recent Man Ray exhibition in London and hear him talk of his life, of art and of artists with the enthusiasm born of great experience and love.
