The Second Gold Rush
Under Alaska's arctic waste the oil companies have made America's newest - and richest - strike, whose output could rival that of Libya. In two years' time, and at a cost of £2,500 million, the oil will be flowing by pipeline the 800 miles from the Arctic Ocean to Alaska's southern shore. Lured by high wages and a sense of adventure, thousands have poured into Alaska in a second Gold Rush. But that, for many of them, is where the Great American Dream has ended.
John Swinfield reports from Alaska on America's uncertain energy future.

Early in 1898 a Boston psychologist started treating a new patient. He noted that she was quiet, reserved and almost morbidly conscientious. But he soon ! found that the gentle Christine Beauchamp harboured a second completely different personality - a childish mischievous creature who tormented poor Christine until she thought she was i possessed by a devil.
Later.a third personality appeared and Dr Prince devoted the next six years to his search for the ' real' Christine. But who was she and who were the other contenders that apparently shared the same body?
