An inquiry into worker participation.
Jim Murray is a Works Convenor -Chairman of the shop stewards at Vickers in Newcastle. This programme looks at his life style, his work, his interests and his goal - worker participation. He wants the men on the shop floor to have a greater say in the running of the company. Now it looks as though he may get just that. The Government is setting up a committee of inquiry to advise on industrial democracy and envisages trade union representatives on the boards of most companies in about two years.
What will participation mean for workers and management and what form will it take? Whatever its effects, it could radically transform the way that British industry is run. The Right to Manage looks at the conflicts in industry as seen through the eyes of union convenor JIM MURRAY and with union leaders, workers, managers and directors considers how worker participation may help to resolve those conflicts.

Unknown to many human inhabitants of the metropolis, wild life flourishes within the vast built-up area of Greater London to an extent realised only by the observant student of nature.
In Charing Cross Road, a sparrow feeds its young; at a power station in Bow, a hedgehog prowls through the tangle of pipes. There's a badger nosing through domestic rubbish, and there's a kestrel with a nest in a ventilation shaft at the BBC. There are wild deer and there are wildfowl, fox cubs, owls and even a bird's nest at the bus stop.

Tonight: Miners and their wives from North Gawber Colliery Miners' Welfare, near Barnsley, Yorkshire.
In this week of special Open Door programmes, groups of people - whose attitudes and ideas are not commonly given direct expression in the media - are invited to put forward their views on the state of the nation... or anything else they care to talk about.
In all Open Door programmes the public decides the content. Technical and creative help is provided by the Community Programme Unit of the BBC.
