Some of the stories contained in this report about the South American baby trade are truly horrendous. Nineteen-year-old Luz tells how she was seven months pregnant when she was forced to have a brutal caesarean operation. The baby was taken away, destined for a rich but childless Western couple and Luz was left to die.
More than 600 babies a year are sold in Paraguay. In some cases the deals are legitimate but up to three-quarters of the babies sold are snatched illegally by midwives or other intermediaries who scour the country looking for youngsters.
Emily Buchanan's documentary also features the childless couples who have become victims of the trade, and explores the backlash to this appalling business.
