Second of a two-part Money Programme special exploring working life in Britain. The technological revolution has arrived, but are we to be its masters or servants? Michael Robinson reports on how technology is invading the workplace and asks what will replace the old certainties, such as a career structure and a job for life? Personal stories in the programme include that of Nick Hill, who lost his job but is now a computer systems designer working from home. Stuart Macdonald yearned to return to his family croft in the Hebrides when he was working as a research chemist in Glasgow. Now he has the best of both worlds by farming sheep and cutting peat, while earning his living working for a San Francisco database publisher.

One Step Ahead. Derek Deane 's arrival as the new Artistic Director of English
National Ballet signalled the departure of one-fifth of the dancers. Reviews were poor, morale was low and the standard of dance was, in Deane's opinion, just not up to scratch. His aim was to rebuild ENB and make it the best touring ballet company in the world. See today's choices.
