Ladybird, Ladybird. The double agents of the insect world, ladybirds are not necessarily what they seem. These beautiful and much-loved beetles, patterned in red or yellow and black, appear in any number of guises in nursery rhyme books and toy shops. But at the same time the real thing is stalking our gardens in the role of the terminator, with the aphid as its chosen prey. Every ladybird means thousands fewer of these hungry pests for the gardener to worry about
(though it does have cousins in other countries who prefer a vegetarian diet). From the day it hatches as a bizarre, leggy grub to the moment it spreads those familiar, spotted wings this beetle, like all animals, must tackle the rigorous task of survival. Narrated by David Attenborough.

Concluding episode of a two-part drama about a momentous civil rights struggle, an Emmy Award winner for "outstanding drama" in 1991. Set in South Carolina in the early 1950s, it takes as its starting point the concept that racial segregation, officially outlawed for a century, is acceptable as long as white and black facilities are "equal". But facilities are of course far from equal, particularly in the schools. The people of Clarendon County decide to challenge the state of South Carolina in court.

1952: the brilliant young lawyer Thurgood Marshall , a leading civil rights attorney, has taken five school segregation cases to the Supreme Court. Arguing on behalf of the state is the experienced John W Davis. With the Justices divided, a stalemate ensues. Fate intervenes with the death of the Chief Justice, and the appointment of California's Earl Warren begins an era of momentous change.

Serjeant Musgrave's Dance, set in a mid-Victorian colliery town, was staged for the first time in 1959 at the Royal
Court. It was the third and to date biggest Court success for playwright John Arden , following The Waters of Babylon and Live Like Pigs. Arden and some of the performers talk about this first production.
