Dreams from the Forest
"I had a dream of a white man. It means disease."Jaka, Chief of the Mehinacu.
The 150 Mehinacu tribe live in a relatively traditional manner within the Xingu National Park, in central Brazil. But while their physical culture remains intact, protected by the boundaries of the park, the white man has invaded their dreams and subconscious. Dreams, rituals and myths are the everyday stuff of Mehinacu life, and through Jaka, a skilled storyteller, the film shows how the shock of the white man is transforming the inner life of the tribe. A rare eclipse of the moon provides a focus for understanding these psychological changes that lead to an unexpected resolution. Producer John-Paul Davidson Series editors Alan Bookbinder and Bill Hilary
