The House That Jack Built
A report on the controversial management style of the man who is reputed to be America's toughest boss. Jack Welch has been head of the international giant General Electric for 13 years, and during this time he has revolutionised the way the company is run, making it more profitable year by year. In human terms though, the price has been high: the company has laid off 100,000 workers. David Lomax looks at the effects of Welch's style.

Desert Voyage: Through Syria with Dame Freya Stark In the second of two documentaries celebrating the life and work of the traveller and explorer, first shown in The World about Us in 1977, Dame Freya Stark returns to Jerbalus on the Turkish-Syrian border for a second attempt at an extraordinary river journey down the Euphrates by raft. The venture is beset with problems, humorous and perilous, as the raft half sinks, is abandoned, reclaimed, and twice beached on shingle. The landscape of biblical antiquity inspires Dame Freya to discourse on her basic philosophy of travel, history, God and death, and to explain her love of the Arab peoples.

Documentary stories from unfamiliar cultures.
Fighting for the Holy Family With all its hype and glamour, boxing offers a dream, a way out of the slum. This is as true today as it's ever been, and nowhere is it more evident than at the Holy Family Golden
Gloves Amateur Boxing Club. Situated in the heart of Catholic, nationalist North Belfast, it is the only mixed boxing club in Belfast. Catholic and Protestant boys train side by side, hoping for success and an escape from the troubled streets. But outside the club they live in a virtual apartheid, divided from their neighbours by flags, painted pavements and an invisible boundary of fear. Producerjoanna Head
