1947: as the British prepare to leave India they announce the division of the country into two separate states - India and Pakistan. The decision leads to one of the most traumatic events in the history of the subcontinent. This drama series chronicles those times.
It is some weeks before
Partition. The place is a small town in the North-West
Frontier Province (now in Pakistan). Tensions are running high. The Muslim League has accused the Indian National Congress of being a Hindu front. In this volatile atmosphere Nathu, an untouchable, is paid to kill a pig for allegedly veterinary purposes. The next day a dead pig is discovered outside the local mosque.
The scene is set for a confrontation between
