Most of the residents of Beck Road in East London are artists. For ten years they've been able to concentrate on their work in the terraced houses which provide them with homes and studios. But now the street which they rescued from dereliction is to be sold.
In this film they argue that the future of contemporary art in Britain is closely tied in with the future of Beck Road.
Open Space is the series where the public can make programmes under their own editorial control helped by the Community Programme Unit.

Welcome to the Real World The last of three Horizon programmes
It's remarkable how little I know considering how long I've been studying medicine. For the first time, the surviving medical students of the class of 85 are coming face to face with patients, in the 'real world' of a surgical ward at St Mary's Hospital, Paddington.
How well have their two years of training prepared them to communicate with a recent stroke victim or to talk helpfully to a man with terminal cancer? And there are other challenges, like presenting a patient's history well enough to satisfy the exacting standards of the professor of surgery.
Then, a mere two months after leaving the shelter of the medical school, they're plunged into the very real world of a night shift in casualty.
