It's October 1985, and in the excitement of getting into medical school none of the successful candidates really believes they could be among next year's failures.
But they're still a long way from contact with patients. Ahead of them lie two years of academic grind. Through dissection of the human body they learn to distinguish their jugular notch from their xiphysternum. Later, they'll spend sleepless nights trying to master physiology and biochemistry.
As the exams loom it becomes clear that some of them will fail to convince the examiners that they have managed to acquire 'the knowledge'. Narrator Paul Vaughan

Narrated by Tim Pigott-Smith More new discoveries have been made underwater in the last 25 years than ever before. Unique aeroplanes, submarines and great ships - like the Titanic. What should be done with them? Salvage them for scrap or save them as historic monuments? In Scapa Flow, every year, the Royal Navy conducts a service of remembrance over one of Britain's biggest war graves - HMS Royal Oak.
At Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, is a similar emotive war grave - the battleship USS Arizona. The island of Guam in the middle of the Pacific was the scene of some of the fiercest fighting in the Second World War. There, a Japanese cargo ship, sunk in 1944, lies alongside a German auxiliary cruiser, sunk in 1917. A unique memorial to two world wars.

The exiled god-king, the 14th Dalai Lama , believed by millions of devotees to be the reincarnation of the Compassionate Buddha, reveals to Bernard Levin his feelings about Tibet's plight and about his own destiny as man, monk and monarch. Can he ever return to a country now dominated by atheistic communist rule, or should he stay abroad allowing Tibet to forget its timeless traditions and move into the future with 21st-century China?
