Clive Jermain 's play
The Best Years of Your Life was first shown in May 1986 to great critical and popular acclaim, and repeated last night on BBC2.
Adrian Shergold , the play's director, interviewed Clive three times last year; first during the making of the play, then just after the play was shown, and finally last December - the end of an extraordinary year for a young man living with a threatening and incurable illness.
With remarkable frankness, Clive talked of the play and its impact, but also about himself, his life and cancer. 'If by anything I say or convey I can help somebody understand that people with terminal illnesses aren't contagious ... if it makes cancer easier to accept, then it will have been worthwhile.'
