The last of this trilogy of films looking at the next
Northern Ireland generation - from Paris, from the past and from the Stretford End. The Rockingham Shoot by JOHN MCGAHERN starring
Bosco Hogan , Niall Toibin and Tony Rohr
When the British withdrew from the 26 counties, an insular Church joined with an insecure State to create a narrow and inward-looking society. Priests and doctors became the new aristocrats, and the teaching profession was sometimes described as the new priesthood. Reilly, an intelligent and idealistic man, is drawn by his deep frustration with the remains of British rule, the Rockingham Shoot and Ball, towards violence even to the children he teaches and loves. The society contains the effects of this violence but it requires a magician to give back to the children their natural spirit.
